Dar al-Kalima University, under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, recently finished the Community Art Revival Project. This initiative aimed to increase awareness of the importance of volunteering as a tool of community cohesion and resilience by putting artistic and cultural touches on the streets and public squares.
On Thursday, October 7th, 2022, Dar al-Kalima celebrated the completion of this project. Student artists Rayan Abu Zakham, Mohammed Nemer, and Majd Shallan spoke about their work, while Enas Shraideh from the Bethlehem Municipality discussed the significance of the initiative. With dabke dancing, shawarma, and performances from the university’s student band, the event was a spectacular exhibition of Palestinian cultural pride.
Dar al-Kalima’s creation for the Community Art Revival Project was entered in the competition for the best volunteer work within the National Program for Voluntary Service for Youth. It won second place at the level of Palestinian higher education institutions.
It is hoped that public art like this encourages a new generation of young people to be curious about Palestinian cultural heritage.
